Marian adopts her orphaned niece Clarabelle, who grows up to be an attractive and ebullient young woman. Marian falls in love with Ben, but is irritated when Clarabelle monopolizes him. Clarabelle tells Ben that Marian jealously attacked her, and frames Marian for stealing a diamond necklace. Ben proves Clarabelle was the thief, and she’s arrested. Ben and Marian can now live happily ever after.

Nancy is sent to deliver a briefcase containing a secret formula to another city. She is warned to “beware of strangers.” On the train, Nick and Bart both flirt with her, and when the briefcase is stolen, she accuses Nick. However, it’s Bart who took the case because he’s a spy. Nick explains that Nancy was just a decoy, and he has the real formula. Nick and Nancy kiss.

Lora asks her longtime boyfriend Charlie to wait a month before he proposes to her. She visits her friend Ann in the big city and meets handsome Doyle, but discovers he’s a fortune-hunter. Ed is Lora's next date, but he’s “a mother’s boy!” She thinks Carl might be the one, then he turns out to be a gangster. Charlie rescues her and Lora realizes he’s the man she wants.
Visiting French lecturer André proposes to Terry, but she is unsure about “the thought of marrying a—-foreigner—-and living abroad.” She asks her Aunt Sue for advice. Sue says she fell in love with British sailor Tim but asked him to return to England while she made up her mind. Sue finally decides to marry Tim but his ship sinks as he comes back to the USA: “my love sank in the Atlantic with that ship!” Sue tells Terry “love can’t wait.” Terry catches André before he departs and agrees to marry him.
