Angus Beame; Mary Bourne; Mr. Bourne (Mary's father); Homer Clyde (Mr. Bourne's servant); Mildred Clyde (Homer's wife); lawyer; various crewmen of Angus Beame; exotic item merchant; modern-day beachgoers

In 1897, merchant seaman Angus Beame marries Mary Bourne for her eventual inheritance. When Mary's father's will is read, and is not to Angus' satisfaction, he sails away and leaves Mary. The house given to Mary and Angus by her father bears a noticeable resemblance to the Norman Bates house in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960).
