- Synopsis
- Gene recovers from a two-man quack medicine show the life savings of a cripple who just wants to work again, after his boy, Bill, protests the swindle over bad goods. Bill helps Gene investigate the show for robberies done, leads Gene to the site of a crime in progress, knocks the gun from the Indian's hand after two shots, one that hit his partner, Doc, in his fat belly, to no effect. The culprits flee, are found, Bill touches Doc's belly, Gene finds it is a sack of stolen cash, Bill gets the reward, and his lame dad can now afford the operation to get better so he can work again.
Maybe pencil artwork by Pete Alvarado, as he began in 1950 on Gene, after two years on Panhandle Pete. Or he may be credited with too much.

- Synopsis
- Gene tracks train robbers into the desert and a dead-end. He finds Beth seeking her prospector uncle Lonesome. Bandits wound Gene and steal Champ; Beth nurses him. They follow her uncle's burro, survive a sandstorm, and find water. At Lonesome's cabin, they find a corpse and bury it. Lonesome returns and explains it was a badman he killed before. Wounded, he went for a doc. He struck uranium, and will sell the claim and retire. He leads Gene to the hide-out over the cliff, and Gene heads down. Lonesome saves Gene in the nick of time. Gene muses if not for Beth he'd not have closed the case.
