Little Archie recognizes Mad Doctor Doom and Chester even though in their only previous appearance ("Robots of Doom," Little Archie #24) he never met them or even knew of their existence.
The poem Mad Doctor Doom quotes ("From the damp earth impervious vapours rise/Increase the darkness, and involve the skies") is from Alexander Pope's translation of Statius's "The Thebaid."
