Synopsis
Peg is a singer at a New Orleans club, but her persistent ex-boyfriend Deke hampers her career and her budding romance with newspaper columnist Les. Deke says Les is going to marry Capri, and a depressed Peg loses her job. Les shows up and says he loves Peg—also, Capri married someone else, so everything is alright.

Synopsis
Jan dates Mort, a friend from her hometown who is also now living in the big city. Mort spends money freely, claiming he wins bets because he knows “inside” guys. They break up and Jan falls in love with Duane, an assistant district attorney. Mort is sent to prison for embezzlement and asks Jan to visit him as a friend. She hides this from Duane. Mort escapes and is arrested at Jan’s apartment. Duane vouches for her innocence.

Synopsis
Barby’s boss Ordway considers her the perfect secretary but new employee Tevis finds her “insufferable” in her “perfection.” He also suspects she’s trying to steal Ordway from his wife, Tevis’s sister. However, they fall in love and get engaged. Barby introduces him to her working-class sister Mae and Mae’s husband Jared, Barby’s ex-fiancé, but in such a way as to humiliate them. Tevis breaks up with her. When Mae falls ill, Barby nurses her and runs the household until she recovers. Tevis returns and they are reunited.
