Successful investment counselor Rod discovers his girlfriend Cora has been cheating on him. They break up. Rod starts dating Eleanor, a new client, and she says she was also recently jilted by a lover. Rod and Eleanor fall in love, but she confesses that she made up the story about being dumped because she was attracted to Rod. Rod doesn’t care.
Carol, a junior fashion designer, refuses to marry architect Bill until she proves she “can be equally successful at a job of my own,” believing he won’t respect her otherwise. Carol buys some dress designs from novice Faith, passing them off as her own work, and is promoted at work. Faith shows up later because she needs more money for her sick father, and Bill learns the truth. He breaks up with Carol. Carol sells her wedding trousseau and gives the money to Faith. When Bill finds out, he asks Carol to marry him and she agrees.
Ella is hired by the Hot Griddle Restaurant to flip pancakes in their show window. Her boss Alfredo says she's nearly as good as the "Great Maurice" at the Busy Broadway Cafe. She becomes popular with customers but is lonely. Ella is distracted by a man staring at her intently as she works, loses her skill, and is fired. She discovers Maurice is the man who spooked her. Her antics cause him to be fired as well. They admit they love each other and open a pancake restaurant together.
