Synopsis
Irving Carl "Charlie" Chapman is a highway contractor who runs into hard times: his wife dies and his business starts to fail. He turns to a life of crime, first robbing a bank's payroll delivery men, and eventually robbing banks. Chapman is shot and taken to prison. He escapes prison and resumes a normal life under the name of Halvert. Eventually, police find him and he dies in a shootout.
