Airline stewardess Mary is courted by pilot Jack. Stewardesses must remain single, but Mary doesn’t want to get married in any case, because she fears losing her freedom. She agrees to wed secretly so she can keep her job, but Jack doesn’t understand. Finally, Mary decides to quit and marry Jack.

Mary bets fellow actor Jack she can pass for a WAC (Women's Army Corps) and fools Capt. Hal Richards. He asks her for a date. They fall in love, but Mary is sorry she deceived him, because his late sister was a WAC and he respects Mary for enlisting. Hal is upset when he learns the truth. Mary quits her movie acting job, joins the WACs for real, and is reunited with Hal.

Mike returns from serving in the Army overseas and is reunited with Kay. Kay was faithful to Mike in his absence. Now, however, Mike insists she see other men and she dates Terry. Mike vanishes. Kay learns Mike was given 6 months to live due to a war wound and has “one chance in ten thousand” to survive an operation. This is why he tried to drive her away. Kay rushes to his side and they are married in the hospital. The operation is a success.
Pete jilts working class girlfriend Laura and marries the rich Estelle. He begins to see visions of Laura. Trying to forget his troubles, he and Estelle go to an amusement park. On the roller coaster alone, Pete sees Laura’s ghost again and falls to his death. The ride operator says one year before, a woman (Laura) committed suicide in the same way.
