Spunky Kidd; Stanley; Cora Sue Lee; Mr. Perkins; Mr. Lee
Synopsis
A letter from Cora Sue's Aunty Maude says she is sending Cora Sue a musical instrument. At the train station, Spunky, Cora Sue and Stanley mix up items 6 and 9. They manage to transport a piano to the Lee house. It turns out that the real present was a violin.
When Spunky isn't allowed to go with the men to catch a wildcat, he thinks he isn't wanted at the ranch. He decides to run away that night. Spunky gets tired, cold and a little scared. He wants to go home, but isn't sure how to get back in the dark. However, Stanley had been deliberately riding in circles, so they are in fact close to home.
Stanley is sad that there's nothing left of some beef cattle but their hides. When Spunky says they have to go out mending fences, Stanley takes one of the hides to disguise himself.
Spunky, Stanley and Cora Sue are riding in the desert. A crazed prospector thinks they're after his gold, and tries to capture them. Stanley manages to throw one of his horseshoes at him, which disarms him, allowing them to escape.
Spunky Kidd; Stanley; Old Bill; Squint Jackson (villain)
Synopsis
Old Bill the prospector tells Spunky that he has a good mine, and has to go file a claim on it. He's afraid Squint Jackson will sneak in and work the mine while he's gone. Spunky makes a painting of a mine entrance. When Squint comes around, he sees the "entrance", but Spunky keeps moving it before Squint reaches it. This "ghost mine" frightens Squint into leaving the area. It fools Old Bill also when he returns.
Spunky doesn't believe Stanley's prediction of rain. When the rain starts, he's glad Stanley brought a raincoat. Stanley also figures out how they can both use it.
