Debbie grows up selfish and jealous of others. She schemes to replace Miss Graves as private secretary to the boss, and steals Tod from her co-worker Jean. Debbie and Tod wed but she continues to be jealous and thinks Tod is having an affair with Jean. In a rage, Debbie attacks Jean only to learn her friend and Tod were planning a surprise birthday party for her. Tod says “your jealousy has drained my love for you” and leaves Debbie.

Jill grows up in poverty and is determined to make good. While working as a waitress in Joe’s diner, she attends “beauty culture school” at night. Jill convinces Dick to finance a beauty parlor and makes it a success, but rejects his romantic advances. Jill moves her family into a mansion and hides their past. She falls in love with architect Craig. When she sees him with another woman, she confesses her life story and leaves. Craig tracks her down and proposes marriage.

Jealous of her stepmother, Doris schemes to break up her father’s marriage but is instead sent to live with her aunt. She gets a job as a receptionist and rushes into a romance with Paul. They are about to wed when her father exposes Paul as a crook. Doris angrily decides to make co-worker Arthur fall in love with her and break his heart. Her scheme works but Doris realizes she actually loved him.Doris apologizes to her family and to Arthur, and they will be married.
