Vicki dislikes doctors because her doctor boyfriend cheated on her. When Dr. Ralph treats her father, Vicki changes her mind and they fall in love. However, he’s constantly called out on emergencies and she breaks up with him. When Vicki’s father falls ill, Ralph can’t respond and her father dies. Vicki uses her position as editor of the local newspaper to attack Ralph’s reputation. But she learns her father had an incurable heart condition and Ralph couldn’t have saved him, even if he hadn’t been operating on a little girl at the time. Vicki apologises in print and reconciles with Ralph.

Although she’s been married to Pete for only 2 weeks, Beth flirts with co-worker Ken. They soon begin an affair, since Beth doesn’t find her husband “exciting” any more and wants the same “freedom” she had when she was single. After an argument with Pete, Beth rushes to Ken only to discover him telling his fiancee that Beth “gives me a laugh!” Beth goes home and Pete takes her back. She tells him: “If being married to you is a jail—-I’m begging for a life sentence!”

Marcy loves hometown suitor Bill but she doesn’t want to “murder” her career by getting married. Also, her sister Elaine is married with 2 children and Marcy doesn’t want to wind up like that. Marcy has another boyfriend in the city, Dane. However, when she can’t reach either man for a date, she comes to realise “neither Dane nor Bill needed me!” Marcy goes home and marries Bill.

Katherine has always been spoiled by her father. When she falls in love with Jay, she wants to get married right away but Jay says they must wait and save up some money. Katherine knows her father will loan them money and set them up, but Jay says “I won’t let your father support us!” He calls her “a spoiled little girl who hasn’t grown up!” They break up. Katherine eventually decides to call him and apologise.
