Fay urges patience but mechanic Johnny wants to find “another way.” When Fay spots Johnny with another woman and learns their joint bank account has been closed, she suspects the worse and breaks up with him. Johnny follows her and explains he’s been working overtime to earn money so they can wed, that the “other woman” works in a furniture store, and that he used their savings to buy furniture for them.

When he says he needs time, Clair’s mother says he is a just a “trifler.” Clair thinks she and Andy could have had something, but they weren’t given enough time. She comes to Mark Ford for advice.
