- Synopsis
- Porthos takes a bet from Dulac that he can go to Spain and tug the King's beard. In a complicated coincidence, a message between Corbeau and his co-conspirators against King Louis XIII ends up in Spain. The Musketeers unwittingly bear the message back to their King, who ends Corbeau's conspiracy and his life.
At one point in the story, Dulac has each Musketeer captured and powerless individually, but does not kill his old foes, being improbably focused on finding the message.
Presented in three parts: The Deadly Wager (7 pages), Baptism of Blood (6 pages), and In the Raven's Claws (4 pages).
