Dr. Woggo is a tribute to Elmer "Wog" Woggon's character (and medicine show man) The Great Gusto, who appeared in the comic strip "Big Chief Wahoo". Woggon's brother, Bill, had worked on that strip and was currently doing the Dotty and Ditto feature in this issue.
