Major story arcs include: Wolf Gal pursues men, both for romance and for wolf food; turnip termites menace Dogpatch; Lester Gooch creates a comic character to terrible to be shown; song writers turn Daisy Mae's lament into a song, "Don't Marry That Gal!!"; various radio stars perform the song on their broadcasts; Li'l Abner visits Lower Slobbovia (first appearance); fate always ruins Miss Fortune's weddings; Yokum men go wild under Yokum's Moon (first appearance); Boris Karloff, Frank Sinatra, and Salvador Dali select the face of Lena the Hyena (artwork by Basil Wolverton); Mammy corrals Aunt Bessie and forces her to run in the Sadie Hawkins Race.
