The Slobniks are used to poke fun at the beatniks. Rumberto Rascalini spoofs Italian film director Federico Fellini. Nelson Shrinkafeller plays off the name of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller. The names of several Pincushions spin off from the names of prominent people of the day.
