Cover art is an homage to the cover of X-Men (Marvel, 1963 series) #109 (February 1978).
The cover bears the signature: 'Byrne 1984 (after Cockrum 1977)', as John Byrne copied Cockrum’s cover. Note that there was a time lag between the drawing of the original Cockrum's cover as the corner box indicates '1977', and the publication of the comic, in February 1978.
