Synopsis
While in Opal City on a field trip, the Star-Spangled Kid and S.T.R.I.P.E. join Starman in confronting the new Icicle. At the same time, Ted Knight recalls a visit from Sylvester Pemberton when he needed help repairing his cosmic belt and had to face the first Icicle with Ted's old cosmic rod.

Indexer Notes

James Robinson not credited on item. Title from original printing. At one point, Ted Knight mistakenly recalls giving Sylvester Pemberton his first cosmic converter belt, though later he accurately recalls that he gave Sylvester his cosmic rod and Sylvester converted it into the belt. There is an unidentifiable female figure in the JSA photo. Power Girl is colored incorrectly in the II shot. The story reveals that Jack Knight inadvertently suggested Sylvester's code name of Skyman.

Synopsis
Pat tells Mike and Courtney the story of the last case of the Seven Soldiers of Victory and about his later relationship with Sylvester Pemberton.

Indexer Notes

It is revealed for the first time in this story that the Spider was a member of the SSoV in the 1940s. Batman is show with the wrong chest logo. Wonder Woman and Hawkman are shown to have been involved in the SSoV case Pat relates, though according to then-current DC continuity they did not exist. The story re-tells many of the events of Justice League of America (DC, 1960 series) #100-102 and of several issues of Infinity, Inc. (DC, 1984 series) from Pat Dugan's point of view. The seeming appearances of possibly a new Crimson Avenger and new Spider in the epilogues are never followed up on before the end of the series.
