Superman [Clark Kent; also as Professor Hi Laryus]; Lois Lane; The Prankster (villain); Mayor Caldwell; Jimmy Olsen
The Prankster sets out to make Superman the laughing stock of Metropolis. His antics include throwing custard pies in Superman's face and drawing a mustache on an official portrait. Superman retires from fighting crime and crooks run rampant. In disguise, Clark challenges The Prankster to the title of funniest man alive, during which he confesses to having been the cause of Superman losing face.
The Vigilante [Greg Sanders]; Stuff, the Chinatown Kid; Brainsworth (crook); Wilbert Walliston
The Vigilante and Stuff foil the schemes of a book collector who rigs up his volumes with tricks. In one, for example, he affixes $100 bills to the pages, in another he hollows out the insides and places gas in the cavity.
