Synopsis
Roberta is sent to a "boarding school" for "bad girls" because her father can't support her. She gets a job as a governess for the Evans family, but Mr. Evans makes a pass at her and she's fired. Roberta moves to a residence hall and makes friends with Annette, who introduces her to Jerry at church. Roberta and Jerry fall in love, but she doesn't think she's good enough for him. When Roberta is unjustly arrested for theft, Jerry intervenes and says he'll marry her to keep her out of prison.

Synopsis
Beth marries Peter and they have a daughter. However, Beth becomes a shrew, constantly berating Peter for his errors, calling him a "big stupid oaf!" They agree to stay together for the sake of their child but "live our lives separately." Beth thinks Peter is having an affair with his secretary Betty: Betty says Peter loves only Beth, but the old Beth he married. Beth vows to change and she and Peter reconcile.

Synopsis
After their parents' deaths, Beth goes to live with her older sister Marge, her husband Steve and their daughter Peggy. Steve is killed in the service; Marge later dies, and Beth and Peggy are befriended by Marge's old boyfriend George, now unhappily married to Stella. Beth becomes engaged to Larry, which upsets Peggy. Peggy tells Larry she saw George kissing Beth. They break up. Beth clears Peggy of a theft charge at school, and Peggy apologizes for telling Larry that Beth was unfaithful. Peggy reunites Larry and Beth.
