Carol leads a life of privilege. She has a job at Kane Motors, but she is essentially an ornament because she has no skills. Her circle of socialites includes the son of owner of Kane Motors, who she knows is planning to propose to her. One night when her usual crowd visits the Funfair, she volunteers to man an archery booth when the owner is called away on an emergency. While manning the booth, she meets a mechanic and is drawn to him. She starts leading a double life, ashamed to confess her social status to Roy and afraid of her mother's reaction if she finds out about him.
