Shinobi Shaw turns on his Scarlet Witch powered Cataclysm Engine in order to wreak ecological disaster and wrest control of the world from the Sentinels. Midnight switches sides and helps her foster father, Wolverine, and Magneto battle Shaw and his allies. The Scarlet Witch is rescued and the machine is destroyed but at a great price--Wanda is fatally wounded and Magneto loses the use of his legs. Even though confined to a wheelchair, Magneto decides to join Wolverine, Amiko and their friends in the mutant resistance movement.
