- Synopsis
- When Superman returns to New Krypton, his aunt tells him that he may choose his place in Kryptonian society as a member of any of the guilds. Accompanied by labor guild member Tyr-Van, Superman sets off to explore New Krypton and consider his choice. When Tyr notices that they are being followed by a pair of Zod's men, Superman decides it is time to talk with the General. In the end, Superman decides that the Kryptonian guild system is wrong and refuses to choose one, but Alura informs him that one will then be chosen for him, and Superman finds himself working for Zod in the military guild.

- Synopsis
- After Superman begins his duties as Commander in New Krypton's military and meets his unit, he visits with his aunt and his cousin Supergirl at a gala held by the artists guild. After some family time, Kal-El is called away by Zod, who orders him to subdue a herd of rampaging thought-beasts. After completing his mission, however, Superman discovers that a faction of the labor guild has taken hostages at the gala and that as a counter-measure Commander Gor has taken members of the labor guild as hostages of his own.

- Synopsis
- Zod allows Kal-El thirty minutes to negotiate with the labor guild hostage-takers. When Alura finds their leader Tam-Or's demands reasonable and acceptable, the hostages are released. Commander Gor, not satisfied with the outcome, tries to assassinate Tam-Or, but Supergirl saves his life. Humiliated by Kal-El's actions, Gor challenges Superman to a physical duel. But Kal-El teaches Gor that though he now has the same super-powers as Superman, he doesn't have Superman's experience with them. Just as Superman puts down Gor, New Krypton receives a visit from the Green Lantern Corps.

- Synopsis
- While the Green Lanterns are being given a tour of New Krypton by Tyr-Van, Kal-El is called away by Zod and briefed on tracking down convicts who have escaped the destruction of the Phantom Zone. Kal and his unit rejoin the Green Lanterns just as convict Val-Ty makes an appearance. Zod orders Lieutenant Nar to execute the criminal, but Commander El insists that they subdue him. After Val-Ty is placed in custody and the Green Lanterns leave, Zod arrests Kal and Nar and charges them with treason.

- Synopsis
- Superman takes responsibility for Lieutenant Nar's actions and Zod dismisses the charges against her. While Kal-El waits for his verdict, Tyr-Van disables the force field restraining Commander El, but the prisoner does not attempt to flee. Though Kal-El is found guilty, General Zod suggests that Commander El be granted the pardon available since it is Nova, the day Krypton celebrates the birth and rebirth of their star, Rao. So granted, Zod and Kal-El, joined by Alura and Supergirl, attend the celebration of the removal of the dome over the city, when Zod is shockingly shot.

- Synopsis
- As Zod, Non, and Ursa are being sentenced to the Phantom Zone, the story flashes back to when Non, Jor-El's former teacher, confirmed his finding that Krypton will soon explode. General Zod has them arrested, they are warned not to discuss their heresy, and released. Jor-El starts working on a rocketship, but Non appeals to the people of Krypton. When Zod starts to believe Non, Non is abducted and lobotomized. Zod is outraged and asks Jor-El to join in a revolt, but Jor-El refuses. Zod, Ursa, and Non fail in their revolution and Jor-El is forced to exile them to the Phantom Zone.
