Indexer Notes

Story appears in 16 individual one-page installments, presumably as it was originally presented in Italy, 1938. The format seems to mirror that of a Sunday newspaper strip reprint, but with strip-to-strip continuity. Part Two of Two. Concludes from Donald Duck (Boom! Studios, 2011 Series) #364 March 2011.

Indexer Notes

The cover reprint comprises the upper ¼ of page one of eight pages, reformatted to fit a conventional comic book page. The original printing was 32 pages (3 ¼" x 7"), of which this cover was page one. While the “Donald Duck” feature logo and story-title are presented as they were in the original printing, the words “by Walt Disney”, as well as the Cheerios giveaway designation “W1”, have been removed. A penciled-and-inked line in the background, which served to separate the sand from the sea has also been removed from this reprint, and the “yellow sand” and “blue sea” are indicated with a simple change of color.

Indexer Notes

This is an abbreviated, alternate version of 1942's seminal adventure “Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold” from Four Color (Dell, 1942 Series) #9. The 32 single-tier pages of the original printing are reformatted into 7 ½ pages, in order to fit a conventional comic book page. The entire story has been re-lettered by David Gerstein for this reprint, but otherwise remains faithful to the original printing. Added to this reprint is a single panel of a “pirate skeleton head” complete with hat, adorned by spider webs and a spider, which states: “Originally a single-tier giveaway comic, ‘Donald Duck and the Pirates’ has been reformatted for inclusion in this issue. The original cover art appears above.” This explanatory text is most likely provided by David Gerstein, and is inserted into the second tier of page one – before the first panel of the story, and directly below the reprint of the cover.
