Issue Notes

Cover title: Keebler Company Presents DC Comics' The New Teen Titans.

First of three giveaway comics produced in cooperation with The President's Drug Awareness Campaign, this one sponsored by the Keebler Company. A slightly different version of the comic was sold through comic shops, see The New Teen Titans [DC Comics] (DC, 1983 series).

DC didn't realize it couldn't use the character of Robin until after the material for this issue was completed (Robin was licensed by Keebler's rival Nabisco) and Dick Giordano had to re-do all the Robin figures as the Protector, though the character is still directing the team and acting as if he were Robin (Note added by Anthony Durrant via the GCD Error Tracker, May 2010).

Though the 1984 Library of Congress copyright records (cocatalog.loc.gov) give a publication date for one version of this as 1983-11-01 (though it is not clear whether the record it is for the giveaway or the sold version), it had been distributed in the spring of 1983 (as documented in The Comic Reader #211) and re-issued for sale in comic shops in July 1983 well before the recorded publication date in the copyright records.
