Synopsis: Silas, a lone spaceman, crash-lands on a strange planetoid covered with wrecked machinery. After escaping from a giant robot serpent, he is taken in by Mendel, another castaway. He learns that there is a human population, left behind when a mining operation was abandoned. He also learns that the planet exerts such a powerful magnetic force that he won't be able to leave.
