The printing side of the company that would become Charlton goes back to 1931 under other unknown company names. It is not called Charlton Press until 1947.
First plant was open in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1936. The printing equipment was moved to Derby, Connecticut in 1940. A newly built facility on 20 acres of land near local railroad tracks started in 1946. The printing plant was located at the corner of Division Street and Pershing Drive in Derby, Connecticut.
In 1947, Charlton Press is formed as an affiliate of Charlton Publishing.
Charlton prints comic books starting in 1944, it continued printing them until 1986 and going fully out of businees in 1991.
The site was demolished in 1992 and was added to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund toxic waste clean-up site. EPA site number: CTD001186394.
