This series was launched following the success of the 100 Page Giant series that were exclusive to Walmart from July 2018 thru August 2019. This new series is available first as a Mass Market Edition, available through Walmart and other retailers, to be followed by a later Direct Market Edition through Diamond.
This new series follows the model established with the Walmart exclusive lines with a listed publish date of the 3rd Sunday of the month, but they are actually available the Friday prior to that. The Direct Market Editions are available between 2-6 weeks after the Mass Market Edition.
The Mass Market Editions feature reprinted covers, the Direct Market Editions feature new cover art.
In June 2020, DC announced they were discontinuing their Giants, both the Mass Market Editions and the Direct Market Editions. At Walmart, the Giants were replaced by assorted comic multi-packs, each consisting of 4 recent DC comics.
When the DC giants program was abruptly discontinued, the Direct Market Edition of issue #5 was never published, only the Mass Market Edition was published for that issue.
