The first printing of this graphic novel with the same ISBN was simply titled The Savage Land (Marvel, 1987 series), and is almost identical to this book.
Collects Marvel Fanfare (Marvel, 1982 series) #1-4.
This issue has variants:
Tanya comes to Warren with the news that her lost love, Karl Lykos, is alive and well in the Savage Land and she asks the high flying Angel to come with her and investigate. Jameson asks Peter Parker to tag along on the Savage Land expedition and bring back a juicy story for the Bugle. Once they reach the Savage Land, Spider-Man and Angel are quickly captured by the Mutates and brought to Brainchild.
Brainchild devolves Angel and Spider-Man into hideous monsters and sends them out to battle Ka-Zar and the Fall People. Tanya is captured and, when Brainchild devolves her as well, Lykos gets involved and sucks the mutation out of his woman and our heroes returning them to normal but, unfortunately, causing him to transform into Sauron. Spider-Man and Angel leave the Savage Land with Sauron still at large.
On the hunt for Sauron, the X-Men invade the Savage Land only to quickly be engaged in battle by the Mutates. The X-Men are defeated and all but Angel are captured and taken to Sauron and Zaladane.
With the rest of the X-Men captured by Sauron, it is up to Angel and Ka-Zar to mount a rescue. Xavier cures Karl Lykos of being Sauron for good (or so he thinks).
