The cover is a re-colored version of the splash page to the story from The Amazing World of Superman, Metropolis Edition (DC, 1973 series) #[nn] reprinted within with vignettes added from the covers to Action Comics (DC, 1938 series) #1, Superman (DC, 1987 series) #7, and JLA: Classified (DC, 2005 series) #2.
Table of contents with credits. Illustrated with a figure of Superman taken from the last page of the 7th sequence.
Originally untitled, it's called "Origin" in the table of contents here.
Story continues in Action Comics (1938 series) #2.
The original story was in black and white (with shading). The art on all pages has been extended on the edges to widen them (not by the original artists); that's why many captions are not left-aligned.
The original issue says this story was inked by Karl Kesel, but this reprint says Terry Austin. I believe the original, as Kesel was inking all of them at that time. When this story was reprinted in Superman: Rampage (2006), it contains the Kesel credit. Austin might have inked the cover.
This origin is apparently new for this edition.
