Casey Superman [Clark Kent]; Lois Lane; Perry White; Sgt. Casey; Rolf Zimba (villain, intro, death); Gold Badge Organization (villains, intro, deaths); Daily Planet building (globe with ring)
Universe
Synopsis As White, Lane and Kent are meeting in the editor's office, a call comes in over the Police radio for all fire and police to report immediately to a terrific disaster in Metrodale. Leaving the Planet, Lois and Clark spot Sgt. Casey and get a ride with him, and soon arrive on the scene: Metrodale has been leveled by several terrific blasts. Clark sneaks away and changes to Superman to save a woman and her kids in some wreckage, then resumes his identity before being noticed. Casey hears the sound of a plane that can't be seen, then suddenly a voice booms out the message that several members of the Gold Badge Organization had been arrested in that city and that's why the city was leveled. As the two reporters head back to Metropolis, a member of the Gold Badge group is speaking to passersby on the street in Metropolis, stating that soon they would control the government and anyone not a member of the group would suffer for it. This causes a riot, which Clark and Lois witness before racing back to the Planet. Meanwhile, Rolf Zimba, of that Gold Badge group, walks into the Metropolis National Bank and demands they pay a bribe to him, or risk the bank being leveled. After the bank pays, the group then heads to the Daily Planet, where they tell White to submit all controversial stories to them before they are printed. The editor calmly smacks Zimba on the jaw, who threatens the Planet with destruction for that. White calls in all his newspaper employees, and briefs them, and tells them that if any want to leave, they can. All stay....except Clark, who leaves the building and switches to the Man of Steel, then finds Zimba and his thugs, and beats them up....but Zimba somehow escapes. Unable to gain any information from his thugs about how the Planet is to be destroyed, Superman visits the Planet to look around. As he does, there is a deafening explosion from an empty lot across the street. Puzzled, he looks up, hearing the muffled motor of an invisible plane, and sees a bomb materialize out of the thin air. He grabs it and pitches it away where it explodes without damage, then darts around trying to locate the plane. Just then, his sensitive ears catch a radio report that the militia is marching to the city to guard it, so he heads for the soldiers, and spots a bomb planted in one of the tanks. Disposing of the device, Superman heads back to the city, arrives at his apartment, and disguises himself as Zimba. Then he heads over to the Gold Badge building and requests that every member of the organization reports to HQ immediately. Meanwhile, Lois is meeting with the Mayor about this group when the real Zimba enters and demands the government take no action against his organization, or else! Lois and the Mayor jointly tell the man to shove off....but Zimba and his men wait outside and take Lois hostage when she exits the building, and drive away. At the same moment, Superman, disguised as Zimba, phones the Police to come and arrest the whole group for treason as he addresses them later. The Police arrive and round up the group as Superman removes his disguise, and flies off.....but soon he spots Lois captive in Zimba's car and dives down. There is a sudden explosion, which knocks out the Man of Tomorrow, and when he arrives, Lois, Zimba and his men are gone, and Superman deduces that they must be in Zimba's invisible plane. He locates the plane and busts in, only to find Lois with a gun held on her. Told to leave, Superman wants to know first how the town of Metrodale was leveled, and Zimba tells him that the meter readers in that town were under his employ, and had placed explosives in the people's basements. Superman suddenly moves, grabbing Lois as Zimba accidentally shoots out the controls of the plane, and safely rescues her as the plane goes down in flames. When the ruthless Gold Badge Organization causes tremendous damage in the city of Metrodale through the use of bombs, its leaders then turn their attention to the city of Metropolis. But when they threaten, and nearly destroy, the Daily Planet building, Superman devises a plan to impersonate the group's leader, call a meeting of all members in one place, and have the Police round them up, all in one fell swoop.

Universe
Synopsis In the offices of the Planet, editor White surveys a teletype just received from the Corinthville Clarion, telling of giant animals menacing the town. Although White thinks it a hoax, he still sends Lois and Clark over to investigate, and they are greeted by dozens of people fleeing town. One of them is Grant Fellows, a reporter for the Clarion, who tells them of seeing a giant dog in the woods, and hearing rumors that such creatures are being bred in the laboratory of a Dr. Carlstrom. Fellows takes them to the lab's location, which has a extremely tall fence around it. Clark climbs the fence, but suddenly falls to the ground as a woman with a rifle suddenly appears and tells them to scram. When Lois says they are reporters and they want to get to the bottom of these strange sightings, the woman reluctantly allows them in the lab. As they enter, the woman introduces herself as Carol Carlstrom, and introduces her father to them. He shows them around the lab and motions towards the experimental animals in cages, telling them that he is trying to merely find a way of extending the life of living things....and that stories of giant animals is pure fiction. Clark is given permission to look around the grounds, and suddenly hears a woman's scream, and races to the source and finds Lois being menaced by a giant gorilla. He changes to the Man of Steel and brings the gorilla down, then is menaced by a giant snake, which he dispatches as well. As he tends to Lois, they both suddenly hear an angry crowd just outside Carlstrom's lab, who have torn down the high fence and are approaching the lab itself. Superman drops in front of the mob and "persuades" them to disperse, then he enters the lab and asks Carol where her father is. Not getting an answer, his X-ray vision spots an underground tunnel. With Lois and Carol following the Man of Steel into the tunnel, they spot a tied person who turns out to be Carlstrom himself, and, after freeing him, they experience an explosion at the mouth of the tunnel. Superman bores the way out and sees Fellows, who says that he saw the person who set the charge. Superman grabs him and takes off, trying to spot the person from the air, but without luck. After dropping Fellows off to meet Lois and the others, the Man of Tomorrow switches back to Kent and meets up with them. After tramping through the woods, Fellows suddenly turns on his companions and tells the group to raise their hands. He explains that he made up the story about giant animals, and only used a large gorilla and snake to support his story, because he had discovered a hidden gold mine beneath Carlstrom's lab. Fellows then pushes Clark off a cliff, and then Lois....but Clark has already changed to Superman and saves Lois, returning to the top of the cliff, confronting Fellows, and knocking him for a loop. Later, editor White is told by the two reporters that the teletyped story indeed was a hoax. Editor White sends Lois and Clark to Corinthville in response to public sightings of giant animals, and they visit the laboratory of Dr. Carlstrom, who assures the pair that his experiments are being done to try to extend the life span of animals. Later, Superman confronts the culprit involved who explains that he made up the story about giant animals, and only used a large gorilla and snake to support his story, because he had discovered a hidden gold mine beneath Carlstrom's lab.

Universe
Synopsis Assigned by Perry White to write an article on the life of an internee, Lois and Clark meet with their friend, Dr. Sanford Frank, who then introduces them to internee Pedro Carlos from Latin America. But Carlos is less than pleased to have them accompany him about the hospital, and when he visits a patient and whispers the word "chirroba" to a patient, that patient suddenly sits up and goes berserk! Tripping over Clark, the patient collapses, is helped into bed and is adminsitered adrenalin....but it is no use, as the man dies. The three then head on the next case, but run into another man gone mad....a man with yellowish colored skin, whom a Policeman has to shoot. Carlos bends over his body and repeats the word, "chirroba." Just then, a newspaper boy enters the hospital, carrying just=off-the-press copies of the Morning Pictorial, yelling "extra'. Clark and Lois look at a copy and see the headline about a yellow plague gripping the city. Puzzled, they return to the Planet to get chewed out by White for being scooped....but Clark suspects that Carlos knows more than he is telling, and calls Dr. Franklin at the hospital, only to learn that Carlos is also dying of the yellow plague. Kent races to the hospital to question Carlos about the mysterious word he has been saying, but he refuses to divulge what it means. Meanwhile, while Lois is attending a briefing at the hospital, learning it may take months for them to learn how to combat the disease, Kent decides to reveal his Superman identity to Carlos to get him to talk. Carlos then explains that he is a member of the Chirroba tribe in South America, which has been afflicted with this plague....and only the witch doctors of the tribe know a cure for it. Pondering what to do, Carlos suddenly lurches and dies from the disease. Returning to the Planet, Clark explains to Lois, Perry and a scientist, Karl van Breeden, what the situation is, and all three board a plane for Latin America. Upon landing, they contact Mayor Burt Crandall of the local air corps for guidance, and he agrees to guide the expedition into the trackless jungle. Boarding a blimp, they are flying to the area in question when a volcano suddenly erupts below them, buffeting the blimp in sleet and howling winds. The blimp, coated with ice, begins a rapid descent, so Clark removes himself to another part of the ship, changes to the Man of Steel, and clears the ice from the ship, before resuming his Kent identity and rejoining the others. Unfortunately, the blimp clips a mountain and crash lands, just as a radio report inside the blimp reports the rapid spreading of the yellow plague in Metropolis. Clark decides to leave the ship for a stroll....changes to Superman and later alights in the ancient ruins of the cliff-dwellers, where he is alarmed to spot a young boy being set upon by other Indians. He flies in to save the boy, does so, and heads back toward the blimp, only to find the party being attacked by hostile wolves. He then speeds off, changes back to Kent, and rejoins the group just as a flaming arrow stikes the blimp and burns it up. The Indians want to press the attack, but a mysterious white man stops them from doing so. Meanwhile, the expedition members are being overcome by intense heat, and as all collapse, Kent changes to the Man of Tomorrow, burrows into the ground, and strikes water, which rises to the surface. As the members of the party revive, they find themselves face-to-face with the white man holding a gun on them, and he takes them directly to the cliff dwellings. They learn that they are to be thrown into the Cave of a Thousand Horrors, and when they arrive at its entrance, they see the boy Superman had saved chained to the wall. The Indians let loose thousands of deadly rattlesnakes and scorpions, then depart. As the boy is freed from his chains, Kent sneaks off and becomes Superman and dispenses with the snakes. Resuming his reporter identity, Kent and the others walk out of the cave unharmed, and boast for the Indians to try another fate. They decide to throw all of them into the volcano....but Clark insults one of them and they drag him off to kill him, when, as Superman, the Indians are put into a hypnotic trance while Superman meets with the Indian leader and agrees the run the gauntlet in order to free his fellow expedition members. He does so successfully, and the chief agrees to let all go....but as soon as Superman flies off, the chief changes his mind and all are to be killed. Seeing this, Superman returns and saves the other members, while the mysterious white man and the chief attempt to escape in an auto-gyro. The white man throws a stick of dynamite out of the ship at the Man of Steel...it bounces back at the ship and both are killed. Returning to the Indians he had put into a trance, Superman changes back to Clark, brings them out of it, and they agree to give the party the cure for the yellow plague. Assigned by Perry White to write an article on the life of an internee, Lois and Clark meet with their friend, Dr. Sanford Frank, who then introduces them to internee Pedro Carlos from Latin America. The reporters soon learn that Carlos is a member of a South American tribe, the Chirrobans, who suffer from a yellow plague that is now affecting people in Metropolis, thanks to Quismado, a Chirroban. Heading to South America, Superman succeeds in stopping Quismado and securing a cure for the yellow plague in Metropolis.

Synopsis Clark Kent is ordered by editor White to Pier K-14, where the ship "Balconia" is docking, so that the reporter can interview the department chain store heiress, Patricia Randall. As Kent arrives, he sees Randall walking down the gangplank with her possible fiance, French Count Bergac....but suddenly a man jumps toward them with a gun, demanding her life! The man, Henry Walters, explains that he once worked in a branch store of hers and was let go ten months earlier, and now his family is on the edge of starvation. The Count mentions that Randall shouldn't be blamed because she hadn't even been in any of the stores her father had founded...but Walters said that, if she had, she could been more involved in the store and the employees that make it a success. At that moment, Kent steps forward, knocking the gun from the man's hand and overcoming him. After being thanked by Randall, Kent requests that Walters not be charged....but Bergac insists, and she follows his will. Returning to the Planet, Clark tells White there wasn't a story, even though every paper in town had reported Kent's amazing actions.....but he promises to interview Randall right away for the next edition. Finding Randall not at home, but at the offices of her company, Clark is waiting in the outer office to see her, when a commotion occurs in the next room. Using his X-Ray vision, he sees Randall telling the Board of Directors that she is taking charge of the company immediately, and then storms out. Clark sticks around to overhear Count Bergac conspire with the Board members to marry Randall, get control of her affairs in the company, and put the Board back in charge....all for a $100,000 a year salary! They agree, and as Bergac leaves the meeting, Kent decides to attend a special dinner engagement that evening himself [where Bergac plans to ask Randall to marry him]. Changing to Superman that night, he heads over to the Randall mansion, and follows Bergac's car to the Golden Spiral, a local dinner club. Suddenly darting under the car, Superman uses his finger on the pavement to speed up the car to breakneck speed, and is unable to slow the car down until it gets to the club. Rattled, Randall and Bergac enter the club and are seated, after which Bergac pulls a ring-case from his pocket....but the Man of Tomorrow speeds through the club and snatches the ring from the case just as Bergac is ready to show it to Randall and propose! Suddenly, a woman jumps up and screams that her pearls have been stolen, and a search discovers the pearl necklace in Bergac's pocket [courtesy of Superman, of course]. Miss Randall vouches for the Count, but the pair are asked to leave the club. Humiliated, Randall asks to be taken home....but the Count realizes that extreme measures must be taken for his plan to work, so he suddenly speeds up the car and threatens to drive off a cliff unless she marries him. The car's brakes suddenly break and the car plunges off the cliff, but not before the Count jumps out of the car to safety. Fortunately, Superman is watching and saves the young lady and flies off just as Bergac returns to the scene. Randall tears into him verbally, stating that she now knows was a detestable worm he really is, and that she never wants to see him again. Superman overhears this, and then heads home for the night. The next morning, Kent hands in his article about the break-up of Randall and Bergac, and White gleefully tears it to shreds, and shows him rival newspaper stories about the marriage of the two the night before. Shocked, Clark heads over to the Randall mansion to see the pair walking out....right past him, and Randall acts as if she doesn't even know Kent. Following the two in his car, and using his telescopic vision, he sees Randall enter the offices of her business, and notes that Bergac has taken over control of the company with no objection by his wife....then watches the pair exit the building and get into the Count's car. He also sees the woman take off a wig, revealing that she is NOT Randall, and that a scam has just been pulled off. Changing to Superman, he follows the two back to the Randall mansion, where she enters [back in disguise], and the Man of Steel learns that the Count is not a French Count afterall, but a convict named Ricky Hanlon! Superman bursts in through the window and flies off with Bergac, threatening to drop him unless he tells the location of where Patricia Randall is being held. Bergac says that he hired some mugs to dispose of her....and just at that exact moment, Superman hears a plane fly overhead and notes Randall being pushed out of the plane to her death. He flies over to grab her as the plane dives at them, firing machine guns. Superman darts about so that the plane crahes into a mountain, killing all aboard. Flying back to Metropolis, the Man of Steel explains what the situation really was all about. They drop off Hanlon at the local jail, Superman [as Kent] phones in the story to editor White, Randall re-hires Henry Walters and fires the entire Board of Directors. Months later, Clark visits Patricia Randall in her office, and complimenting her for running the company with great efficiency, and she requests that Kent thank Superman for all he did....should he ever see him! Patricia Randall returns from overseas and calls a Board of Directors meeting for the Randall Department Store Company, and informs them that from that point on, she was taking charge. After she leaves, a French Count in attendance informs the board that if he has his way and marries her, that he would return control of the company to them: for $100,000 a year!

Craig Delich As I have already done in issues #9 and #10, I have gone back to the extra-ordinarily long synopses that I put in for this issue back in 2006 and here have shortened them to a reasonable length. 2010-01-01 23:40:02 Editing Editing
Craig Delich This is a FULL PAGE. When I originally entered the sequence, I should have created TWO .5 page sequences. I need someone to create a .5 page sequence for the cover of Action #38, then place the note listed here in the Notes section for that sequence. I am not certain how to create new sequences in this new on-line system, and would prefer someone else with the know how do it. 2010-01-01 23:47:50 Editing Editing
Craig Delich This is a FULL PAGE. When I created the sequence as a .5 page back in 2006, I should have also created a .5 page sequence for the Batman #5 ad. I'm hoping someone knowledgable in doing this can get this done in the near future. 2010-01-02 00:31:08 Editing Editing

Allen Ross Sequence 2 synopsis: "it's leaders" -> "its leaders" (doesn't stand for "it is" here)

Sequence 6: The old synopsis spelled the town as "Corinthville", the new has it as "Cornithville". Which is it?

Sequence 13, Inks: typo: "{" should be "["

You should probably add your new issue-level note to the Notes at the issue-level, and delete the entire Notes content at the cover-level (sequence 0).

Be careful writing comments at a sequence level; we reviewers only see them at the very end, not tied to a sequence. I'm guessing your comments about half-pages were on sequences 5 and 12.

Adding sequences is easy enough; at the top of page, there is a "Sequence number:" field to the right of an "Add story" button. To use, fill in the sequence number that you want to add (say, 6 in this case), and click "Add story". Fill in the info, and save it. You'll now see two sequence 6s in your index; you have to manually adjust the sequence numbers for all sequences following the one you added (for now; eventually Henry plans to add code to do it automatically). Just make sure you REALLY want to add a sequence, because right now there's no way to delete a sequence once added (that's also coming).

If you don't want to try it; note so in the comments when you fix the other items I mentioned, and I'll do it for you.

Craig Delich Changes made, except to sequences 5 and 12.....since this will apply to issue #12 as well [which I haven't done yet, but will do today], MAYBE it's better just to adjust page count to 1 --- would you agree? 2010-01-02 15:36:40 Editing Under Review
Allen Ross Changing the page count to 1 is probably the best idea for now.

You didn't touch the issue-level notes. You probably know this, but just in case, you do know that the issue level stuff has been separated from sequence 0, and now you can adjust the issue-level stuff by clicking on the "Edit issue fields" button at the top. That's where the indicia publisher and brand can be set too. I did mistype what I was wanting there; I'd say for the issue-level Notes, it should have the "Assistant editor dates approximate. All notes and synopses added by Craig Delich and revised 2010-01-02." part, and the sequence 0 Notes should have the "Cover art verified by Fred Ray." part. Although I'm not sure what that sentence about Assistant editor dates is referring to.

FYI, I'm also updating the index to Superman #10, as I actually own a copy of it (my oldest comic; 70 years old this year). I approved your changes first.

Craig Delich I'm nolt sure what you want re the issue level notes, so maybe you better do it [it'll probably have to be done again for #12 when I get to that issue]......I'm just goosy about this stuff for right now. I did change sequences 5 and 12 to 1 page. I don't know who put in the "Assistant editor dates approximate" entry.....it was there in 2006 when I put the original notes of mine in. 2010-01-02 16:22:30 Editing Under Review
