Donald Dale Milne | Bob - Welcome to the GCD! My name is Don Milne and I'm going to be your mentor to help guide you through our indexing process. You have made a good start on a first index and I have a few comments to help you improve it. First, the Key Date field is required. I know the construction of this field is a bit odd, but it is actually rather simple for most modern comics. For the date given of January 2001, the Key Date would be "2001.01.00." This is just the 4-digit year, followed by the 2-digit month, followed by "00" for most issues that are published only once per month. Full instructions are at http://docs.comics.org/wiki/Keydate. Next, the Page Count field is simply the total of all pages in the issue, including both the front and back of both covers. For typical modern US issues, this is 36 pages. If you do not know the page count, checking the Uncertain box as you have done is fine. Finally, Sequence 0 is reserved for the front cover of an issue. The story you have entered should be Sequence 1 instead. This is easy to change by changing the Sequence Number field for this sequence. A bare bones Sequence 0, for the cover, should then be added. It need only include a Page Count of 1 and the credits information: Script (usually No Script), Pencils, Inks, Colors, and Letters. Any or all of these may be "?" if unknown or check the NO boxes if they do not apply. If they are signed on the cover, you can use "Artist's Name (signed)." Hope this is helpful, and if you can make these changes I can approve it and you can be on your way to index number 2. Sorry I don't speak Polish, so I hope my English is clear enough for you. One pair of my wife's grandparents was Polish and her mother learned some when young. But, as is all too typical here, by the third generation no one taught anything to my wife. She knows only a dozen words or so. We've lost a lot of knowledge in the USA that way. - Don Milne |

Bob Roman | Thank you for your comments. Artists are mentioned for whole issue, so I'm not sure if it can be applied to cover too. In the next issues there is no story titles, so can I use "Here Nothing Can Go Wrong (part 2)" for the title, becouse it's a continuation for 1st issue story? | 2010-07-03 09:43:11 | Editing | Under Review | |
Donald Dale Milne | Bob - Sorry for the delay getting back to you; I was on vacation. I would probably not use the interior artists for the cover, unless you can tell it is the same art. For the title, if the next issues have no titles, you can use the part 2 idea. The proper way to note a title you use that is not shown in the issue is to enter the title, such as Here Nothing Can Go Wrong (part 2), and then check the Unofficial title? box. This will result in the title displaying as [Here Nothing Can Go Wrong (part 2)], matching our convention of using square brackets for information not shown in the issue. - Don |
