Synopsis
År 1286: Den före detta inkvisitorn Conrad av Marbourg ska brännas på bål. År 1306: Marbourgs vän Charles av Elsenor kallar till sig Marbourg, då det i klostret i Veynes har gjorts en stor upptäckt, som orsakat en total massaker på klostrets munkar. Marbourg och Charles adoptivdotter, Elisabeth, beger sig ut på jakt efter munkarnas mördare, vilket leder dem till klostrets före detta abbot, som lever som en eremit i Pyrenéerna.
